Richard Brooks Nichol

Our little boy is here! He was born April 14, 2011 @ 4:30pm. He was 7 lbs 13 oz, 20 1/2 inches long. We are so happy that he is here. He is named after his father and grandfather. We are going to call him Brooks, just like Richard Kade goes by Kade. I swore I would never in a million years name my kid Richard and call him something else. Its amazing how you change your mind on certain things. I hope one day he knows what a honor it is to be named after two incredible men.

Here is the story.... I was due on April 13th, Kade was working out of state over the last five months so in order to have him here I asked my doctor if I could be induced on the 14th. I am really weird about dates and when my kids birthdays are. I had all these days I didn't want and I got what I wanted on both kids, lucky me :) Anyways Kade did get transferred back to Salt Lake the week Brooks was born, I am so grateful to have him here with us. So I went in on the 14th at 8am to get induced. My nurse was training another nurse so everything took twice as long, which was ok because it was nice to have two nurses helping with everything. They were awesome, their names were Julie and Julie haha. So they finally got everything going and then about an hour after the pitocin started I asked for my epidural. I didn't want to be in pain so I got it early. They put it in and then left. After about 15 minutes my left leg wasn't numb and I started feeling contractions. They hurt and it was really weird to feel them on one side and not the other. They got it fixed after about an hour and a half and then I fell asleep about an hour and a half later I woke up and felt like it was time to push. I was at a 9 so they called my doctor up. I pushed for about twenty minutes and then Brooks was here. We actually didn't have a name at that point. He came out screaming his guts out. When they put him on me he looked like Mia's twin, he stopped screaming when I started talking to him and it was so awesome to know that he really knows me. It was really crazy to be looking at him and know that he wasn't Mia. They took him and weighed him and did all his tests he passed with flying colors. Then they brought him to me and he was perfect. He nursed right away and was great at it, different from Mia. Then Kade was holding him and said his name is Richard Brooks. We had talked about this name before but we had taken it off the list. It was in my top three so I was so glad that he brought it back. Brooks is after...yep if you know me at all you know I have an obsession with Garth Brooks that can't be explained. Garth is the reason that Kade and I are together so I thought it would be appropriate to name our son after him. It was amazing to have so much love for him right away, I wasn't sure how it was going to go loving two kids but it was as easy as loving the first one. Mia came by that night and she was in love with Brooks immediately. She loves him so much and gives him kisses and hugs as much as we will let her. We had many visitors in the hospital and appreciate all the love and support that our family and friends brought to us.

Brooks is a really good baby, he eats well, sleeps well, and is so fun to watch he is happy all the time. We were also very excited that Hunter came home the same week that Brooks was born and was able to meet his two cousins on our side. We have had fun this past week and a half with the two babies. There is a picture below of Brooks sucking on Kade's nose. I was coming to feed him but wasn't quite fast enough and that is what ended up happening, so funny. We love Brooks so much and look forward to our time watching him grow and learn. We are also happy that Mia is doing so well with the transition. I am so blessed to be the mother of these two beautiful children, and so lucky to have Kade by my side to help me.
